On the first day of Christmas Willow sent to us, the first of her Xmas facts:-D

Thanks Willow, lovely to see you again:tu

Interesting stuff Willow. I didn't know the colour of Santa's outfit was decided by a Coca-Cola ad.

Karrot 11-12-2013 04:19 PM

Well said Willow, Santa is a creation of an evil corporation out for tooth rotting world domination.......

.....but it tastes so nice!!!!!

Excellent Willow, :tu

Having once lived in the very far North I've heard another version but we'll leave that for now as the folks who told me it still firmly believe in Trolls too.

I do look forward to the "Holidays Are Coming" advert on TV though, it kinda sets the scene.

We're all ready and waiting for your next fact :D (and your lovely picture). ;)

Thank you Willow, such a lovely idea. :tu
I was secretly hoping for an 'Advent Nicole' calendar. An item of clothing opens / gets removed every day :drool

It is proposed that Nicole will do some poses with just a hint of naughtiness for the festive season. They will be (almost) quite respectable and will not require "Hotspot" treatment. I hadn't thought of a Nicole Advent calander though! The problem is that Nicole opening or taking off one item per day would never last through advent!

Thank You Willow

Thank you Willow for helping folk remember there is so much more to Christmas than greed. Santa/St Nicholas - good chap and keeps us jolly.
I have been told by Ekaterina that they used traditionally to celebrate Christmas on January 7th according to the old calendar and the presents are brought for the children by "Father Frost" and the Snow Maiden.
For myself - I hear the Red Cloak and white beard go as far back as the "Allfather - Odin! Christmas? Yule? Whatever! Have a good and happy one.

I'm pleased that you like the posting. I think that Ekaterina is possibly a day out. Old Christmas Day is 6th January. It all stems from when we changed from the Julian to the Gregorian Calendar in 1752 which caused much confusion. Wednesday 2nd September was followed by Thursday 14th September and new year deemed to start on 1st January rather than 25th March. People claimed and protested that they had been cheated out of eleven days of their lives!
PS Its also why the tax year end is 6th April - it was originally 24th March and as ever the tax man is unyielding!

Since its conception in 1994 by Judith Donath, the technology behind the E-Card has changed significantly. One technical aspect that has remained mostly constant is the delivery mechanism: the e-mail received by the recipient contains not the E-card itself, but an individually coded link back to the publisher's web site that displays the sender's card exactly as it was originally configured.
I couldn't find anything specific to Christmas E-cards but I think it's safe to say that it would be the same year, probably in static form rather than animated.

What a spoilsport.

That all just goes to show why the Puritans and their modern politically correct ilk should never again be allowed a position of power.

I like the plastic tree because im a cheap skate :D

Cyber Ted 17-12-2013 10:04 AM

Funnily enough the best fake tree I've ever had was a German one. It was plastic, had many parts, and had to be assembled each Christmas season, it used to take me hours to put it all together but it looked great once it was done.

Thanks for the new 'fact' Willow :tu

More valuable than gold?

I'm off down the garden centre now, I'll buy loads of bulbs and grow myself a fortune. :D

CT

They don't grow from bulbs! The Dutch tried an economy based on tulip bulbs in the 17th century - it collapsed!!

Cyber Ted 19-12-2013 01:20 PM

Yep, that wasn't very 'bright' of me. :D I have some climbing rose bushes here, it was one of those that led to last year's rib cage rearrangement incident. Alan Titchmarsh, I ain't.

While a 'bulb' related economy may well, not have worked for the Dutch, it hasn't done Osram, Phillips et al. any harm. :p

Uh-oh, Willow's on the sauce.

Question is: is it a pre-Christmas nerve-calmer, or a post-birthday-party hair-of-the-dog?

Don't worry the presentation was prepared a couple of weeks ago.;)

revoL annaerB 23-12-2013 10:39 PM

And I just thought it was a nice thing for kids to sing:confused::o Had no idea there was a christian meaning behind it.

I can imagine Nicole's Christmas facts...

Christmas is a good time to go topless, drink loads of plonk and PARTY:D

Cyber Ted 23-12-2013 11:08 PM

I wouldn't go too firmly down that "fact's" route.

The Christian faith has a long history of absorbing existing ritual and belief and spinning it to suit their own ends.

The early monks in Britain would have put Tony Blair's spin team to shame. :D

Always nice to see a picture of the lovely Willow though. ;)
