Photo issues

Hi,

I'm having an issue with posting foto's at the moment, for some reason, any "portait" photo's I post seem to be displayed as "landscape" as soon as I either "Preview" the post, or submit it?

Any idea how to stop this?

I have had issues, I now use the simple Windows inbuilt photo viewer to rotate them 4 times... It seems to update the meta data, which sometimes isn't correct.

Some cameras actually store the orientation of an image in meta data, rather than store the actual image in your preferred orientation.

Different apps view them differently...

Cheers AH, tried that, no joy.......no matter what I do it just decides "landscape" on every picture I try posting.

Are you using a resizing tool? I've had the same issue with one I was using to bulk resize (rather than individually resizing in Paint).

The landscape ones were fine, but not the portrait.

Hi PD, I'm using the standard windows resizing tool I have always used, its only the last week or so that its started happening, no idea why. It was fine before.

Hmm - maybe an update causing a problem?

Yes usually uploading images does not read the metatdata and rotate the images according to the orientation flag in EXIF data. You have to manually rotate the image before uploading. Had a lot of fun until I realized that...

Under Linux I use either the command line tools imgagemagick or jpegtran, which are available for windows too, but cumbersome to use compared to the usual windows tools.

For advanced editing I use GIMP https://www.gimp.org/ it's a free photoshop alternative and has a quite steep learning curve, but you can do a hell of things with it.

Easier to use viewer and converters are either irfan view or xnview. So you don't have to rely on the standard windows tools which sometimes work as expected and sometimes not...

So good luck, but I think something different than the usual windows tools might help.
