Well a host of some kind is needed to hold the images; but for viewing them, maybe linking to the gallery is better because it bypasses the image host's display web page; this can be important; for example, this morning clicking the link took me to their main web page, this time once I tried it it took me to the image; imgur also has this trouble, it does not do the same thing every time.
In general, many image hosts have unpredictable behaviour and apart from holding the image, it might be best to bypass them for viewing and use a gallery like the one in the link I did above.
