DON'T use sponges with acetone though, but for cleaning off makeup, the oil+sponge combination works just fine.

These are non-woven so no problems about leaving bits behind.

I'll see if sponge is more effective. I should have a few scouring sponges in the cupboard I can cut up.

I think the main problem is my lack of patience
