Amazing! The bike didn't really need a rider!

Bonus!, not to many places lost.
But will anybody ever let him forget that his bike recovered before he did?

Pete.

i wonder if there is a penalty for losing your bike? maybe they need to use seat belts or a tether so the bike stays with the rider.

I was competing in the BMX nationals at Poole in Dorset (the Branksome track, which I am told is no more) in about 1985 when one of the guys in front, a huge black fellow, had his chain break coming out of the first bend. I thought I'll just zip past him and I'll be in third place. However, even without pedaling, his sheer momentum kept him in front of me until about the last bend.

For the record, I came off at the last set of jumps, which I had never tried to jump before (now's the time!) but I picked up my bike, got back on, and still came third. I have a little medal on the mantelpiece to prove it. (And some gigantic and ornate gold colored plastic trophies in the loft from my racing in the 25-35 year group on the 24 inch wheel so called 'cruiser' bikes, which are actually faster than the more common 20 inch BMX bikes.)

Nowadays I ride a mountain bike doing the equivalent of 1970s motorcycle trials riding, including near-vertical drops that nobody else does, that I know of. (Modern cycle trials, which seems to me just trick riding, does not interest me.)

Oh, and that's not really me in the video.

wonder if you can win a race if your bike crosses the finish line without you?
