The baby oil helps in 2 ways.
First powder make up can be messy on a doll so the wet oil helps reduce the "loose flakes" of powder from going to places you don't want it to go. 2nd it stays on and lasts longer so thats why it is used, you can apply in the same way without babyoil if you wish...

Nice quick tutorial and a great way of adding lip colour quickly.
I clean the area I'm working on with baby oil first, then wipe off the excess. Allow any residual oil to soak in, which means sticky skin. Then apply the powder makeup dry with an applicator sponge. Takes ages and can be tricky defining lips but it works well for a softer look. If my Vicky wants a more obvious edge to her lips, I'll apply just a little too much makeup, going just slightly beyond her lips, then cut it in with baby oil and a cotton bud. eco |

This is helpful and shows that regular human makeup is okay for dolls, which was something I was wondering about.
My boy doll will only be wearing eyeliner, so will a standard eyeliner pencil be suitable, or would I be better applying dark powder with a brush as per the pictures in this thread?

In my experience, eyeliner pencil doesn't stick to TPE too well. You have to go over it again and again and again and...
Good for building up layered eyebrows, but not much good as eyeliner. I'd use a small brush and powder. |
