Afternoon all. Just wondering if the head stands are suitable for doing the makeup on a doll head.

Personally I still paint (yep, I'm sticking with that description) their faces sat on the bed with my legs crossed and the head nestled there. That approach is not for everyone but it works for me as for things like lips I will actually turn the head upside down whilst doing them. The head stands would be great if your approach is sat at a table. I would say though that it may be advantageous if your painting position is front on to have two or three large, thick (5+ cm) books under the stand to raise the head to a good height for painting where her nose/eyes are pretty much at the same level as your own. The above said, everyone works differently so its a matter of finding what is right for you. HTH, Shamus.

Thank’s for the input. That has saved me some money rather than buying a “posh” one for over £50

Hi Folks!
My head stands are primarily designed for storage, but if you can lift them to eye level, then they would be OK for doing makeup. They can also be screwed down to a work surface. For makeup, Mr Algaeholics generally puts our head on his lap, on top of a towel, so he can wipe off residue from his tool with ease whilst messing about with us... I generally reapply full make up with the dolls head in my lap, I have never been able to do it any other way, although because they mostly stand around doin' nowt, I more often do tweaks and do touch ups while they are standing there, upto the point I need to remove it all and start again. The only way I can glue eyelashes on is with the dolls head on a stand on the table and me sat down in front of it. I know not why.

Initially I used the headstand, which was itself on a box to bring up the level to eye height.
I have, as others here, decided that on my lap resting on a cloth is much easier. Sometimes it is worth taking advantage of the fact they are not actually real.
