Default Importing dolls into the UK - Legality etc..

Hi,

Not sure which forum this should belong in so figured I would post it here, apologies if it's better placed elsewhere.

So i've recently considered importing a doll, this would be the second doll i've bought. I was considering another of the numerous 100cm dolls that you see around, having owned one of these in the past I know it's quite compact, easy to manage etc. However after doing a quick Google I now see that customs are likely to confiscate the item along with one or two horror stories about plain clothed Police officers visiting the buyer.

Google hasn't been much help, searches regarding importing dolls always lead back to numerous stories of people who have been charged with suspended prison sentences. 9 times out of 10 i think this is due to them having child pornography as well so it's almost as though the doll is a scapegoat and highlighted as the reason for the sentence. When in actual fact it's the child pornography they were found to have.

So i've now written off buying any of the 100cm dolls, just due to the fact that even though it may have boobs the size of footballs the face is more often than not, young looking and likely to raise questions.

Instead i'm now looking at 140cm WMDoll models, which in my opinion do not look like minors but what's the probability of this being intercepted by customs? The law isn't clear and seems open to interpretation, only thing I found (which isn't confirmed) is that the import of a doll is illegal but owning one isn't. If that's the case, then even if the doll is clearly not child-like can it still be seized?

Any information, opinions or experience of importing would be appreciated. I can't help like feel as though i dodged a bullet with the 100cm doll I imported and i'm not willing to take that chance again.

do not import yourself go through a uk based vendor that way they deal with customs and all the trouble and can tell you what will go through and what won't.

Thanks Jason that's quite handy, so even at 140cm it could be pulled up by customs. I assume the law that's mentioned there is a case that was won in 1987.

I'd rather not use uk vendors, it's nothing personal and ultimately they decide the prices they charge. For me though when I can buy a doll for 350 and they have the same doll for 1500 it's a no brainer.

I would love 2 see what 1500 pound doll you can get for 350? Would prob be a cheap copie i think and uk venders wont sell you a child sized kid looking doll, i paid 1900 for mine but its a proper Wm woman sized doll.

I took the plunge with a certain so called UK based site which was actually based in China. Wish I had read this site beforehand. They do seem reasonable as I explained I did not want the 135cm Forever Doll I had ordered due to all these issues going on right now. They said they have never had a problem with shipping dolls here.

I then asked if they had ever had problems with the 135mm doll and they told me they hadn't shipped one before. I asked to swap to the 155cm version which hopefully will be shipped instead.

Its all really silly as I suffer from serious back problems so wanted a lighter doll as lugging around a 30Kg doll as opposed to a 25Kg doll is a difference. Maybe I should have got a blow up doll. Oh well. I'm waiting on the Chinese company to confirm I can make this change as there is no way I want the 135cm doll after reading everything going on.

@jasoncaine
if you wanted a light doll you should have gone for the DS EX-lite or a fabric doll like teddy babes or anime.

You are so right. The DS Lite would have possibly done the job; the other suggestions, although lovely ideas, just don't do it for me.

But thank you anyhow.
