I did read on TDF that care is needed for magnetic connectors when removing a head to prevent tearing the TPE given how strong the magnet might be.

Halfway down the page is are images from The Doll Studio about how to remove a head

It sounds a good idea for dolls in some positions for modelling, but it bed I'd be worried not just of the head coming off but to easily being turned accidentally when sleeping with a doll, causing damage to the head,

Quoting myself here, but since this has been brought up again, make sure you get an M16 with a 2mm thread pitch if you are wanting more 'screws'.

I still use the screw in type, although I have a couple of push on ones, that they supply as standard now. The magnetic type I like the idea but never tried to make one, or bought one yet, they seem a little pricey. I have seen on a doll at last years meet they looked good and worked well.

Not unless you have money to throw away. As someone mentioned, they are not cheap. However, they are strong. First time I ordered 2. Liked 'em. Second time, I ordered 2 more, with 2 extra "head" ends, the part without the magnet.
Here's the plan:
On some dolls, I never change the head, and they do not need MHCs. But, on the dolls I swap the heads a lot, I install the base, and swap heads at will, even during sex! Just have the other head in reach, with a wig on it. Takes about 5 seconds.

Thanks that perfect , I will speak to a UK vendor to see if they can get them for me, otherwise I will need to speak to Sandro dollStudio, no issues just shipping from Europe to UK .
Anyhow I forget these days I just counted 18 tpe bodies and 25 heads, but I know the ones I swap around a lot.

One other thing: It won't work on a JY or IT Body, but their heads will work with say, a Jinsan or SY, or older JY, because both the body and the head must have female m16 threads in order for them to work. Other than that, Doll on!
