I went upstairs this afternoon to find an unfamiliar face.



She told me that my girls had invited her to stay. I was very rude to her. This somewhat perplexed me. How could I be rude to such a cooperative and tolerant visitor who had come especially to see me?

She started unsteadily to walk around the place,

clinging to the walls.





I told her that she had an excellent skeleton - hinged neck, mid back rotation and bending joint, hinged wrists and hinged ankles but that her feet were too small and her hands too.

Actually I was more rude than that, and she responded

telling me to be quiet.

Somehow she commands an authority. I asked her why she had come.


Because she knew that I needed

a new librarian to reach the higher shelves.
