Alyssa needed a bit of a tidy up this morning

Anyway. I merely put a tiny dot of blusher on the brush and it's way too much already. Adding more or covering it might well compound the issue.

What's the best way to remove blusher (actually eye shadow) or do I have to wear it off with vigorous activity

http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3513&pictureid=80484

Also the lippy (again eye shadow with a dab of gloss on top) seems to leach beyond the lips slightly. I did take the best care to my capability but ...
It's my first day!

Hi Mr. O.

Underapplication and subtlety is key!

Mineral oil / baby oil will remove the powder makeup.

Drip some onto a sponge, and gently wipe.

The oil will evaporate or soak in after a little time.

THIS IS WHY YOU HAVE A SPARE HEAD!!! :D

Thanks Algae!

Hi Mr. O.

It's not the spare head that needed tidying up!

As Algae says above.

For application, dab the brush in the blusher, then brush it over a piece of kitchen towel first, then apply to her cheeks. This will take off the heavy application on the brush and leave you with a lighter application on her.

Repeat as necessary.

Building up is the key.

Also.....Bloody good first try mate, dont be too hard on yourself!

At least I can let her look in a mirror now!

Thats not a bad first attempt at all matey.

I use extra virgin olive oil and a white micro fibre cloth but should be the same result as algae's.

Be gentle, use short straight movements on the lips as you are trying to emove, not redistribute. Keep refolding the cloth to use a fresh clean area.

I'll be honest, the sort of lippy that you have used I would not have.

For starter lippy try using eye shadow then perhaps move up to lipstick rather than lip gloss.

To put the lippy back on using lipstick don't apply it directly but rather use a proper brush used for oil painting. Don't overload the brush and put it on in smooth movements. To finish it use a water colour brush to create smooth natural looking lips.

If you find doing their lips is a quick job you are not doing it right. In general I will lose about half an hour on a set of lips... sometimes much longer when I need to clean and repeat a few times.

The blusher on the cheeks is not bad matey but the lack of colour around the eyes makes emphasises it a bit too much.

you've not made a bad job at all and it gets easier twith time and practice :tu

You confused me with saying Blusher and eye shadow in the same line.

Just to confirm. eye shadow are the small coloured squared. blusher is normally in large circles and its like compressed sherbert. Hang on, sure I've got a pic of my makeup try somewhere...

Here you go:

https://i.ibb.co/vsXfLwQ/OLYMPUS-DIGITAL-CAMERA.jpg (https://ibb.co/B4nvTzr)

I use a lot more brushes than that now and I've added lippy's to the armoury. Those big circles are the blushers.... Although so are the two large squares in the compact on the right... I actually may as well just have the blusher set and that one compact as those are pretty much all I use on them (plus the lippys).

Keep at it. You will be surprised at how fast your skills improve,

All the best,

Shamus.

:tu it doesnt take much as TPE 'grabs' the make up being porous with naturally textured surface.

A hint on wig placement:

Put you thumb under her nose and index finger between her eyebrows, then keeping that measure put your thumb between her eyebrows and where your finger now touches her forehead is where her hairline should be. Adjust a little to taste, ofc. :tu

Ah, I was writing for too long. Can see huge improvement with the seconds image.

:b:b:b:b

Lol, this takes me back a bit... I remember that it was Mr K and Algae advising me how to apply Yvettes makeup a couple of years back. The girls all say thanks to both of you (and to Mandos) for the advice that has saved them so much public embarrassment :tu

Huge improvement just on the 2nd attempt. You'll soon have it sussed. I have days when emma looks stunning and then the next time she looks like john wayne gacey so i just wash it all off and start again.

Basically I got a bargain bucket set off of Amazon
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51npNKyoYFL._AC_.jpg

I wanted to have fun with colours but now it's here I find myself being very conservative. So everything is eye shadow essentially. I dabbed a clear lip gloss on top.

The blusher on the cheeks is not bad matey but the lack of colour around the eyes makes emphasises it a bit too much.

I am going to watch a lot of YouTube before addressing the eyes. They can so easily be made to look terrible!

That is a useful aside, Thanks Karrot! I have been placing it somewhat randomly.

Kaia has the exact same palette from Ammmmzon :tu I used about 4 of them LOL

She also has specific colours from Ebay in larger single compacts for stuff like Black, Red, and Purple, as every Goth girl should have :D

I just have that eye shadow sampler and this brush set

Again just picked at Amazons recommendation.

Baby oil, baby powder a hairbrush I got from from Poundland and (now) a box of hospital swabs nicked from my cancer care supplies!

Well ... go on then. What do you use?

I've got to pluck up courage to practice my non existent makeup skills too and like Cabbage I'm terrified of making a complete mess of the eyes so I thought I could start with trying to put some freckles on her. I like freckles and I've seen the terrific and very realistic job some of you experienced Dollie Dads have done with freckles and I'd be very grateful if someone could offer advice.

Any replies gratefully received and I promise to post my efforts up regardless!

:21:24:24:21:24

Thats like saying I'm terrified of making a campfire so I'm going to start off with building nuclear reactor...

I would put freckles in the scarey stuff category. I was more apprehensive about applying freckles than I was doing a finger wire repair! (Really proud of the job now I've done it on two of them but trst me, its not a five min job).

Don't fear the eye makeup. just apply a little, really gently and layer.

Starter eye makeup. barely visible brown under, darker colour over. for starters keep the upper on the upper eyelid, not on the bit between the eyelid and the eyebrow.

Personally I remove their eye's when applying it.

Do the eye's before the cheeks as you need to work down the face to stop yourself from smudging stuff that you have already done.

HTH,

Shamus.

ok, my two with freckles:

Amelie (WM #36)

Maria (Irontech Victoria)

They are more visible in real life than in my poor photographs.

I really need to get my tax return done and accounts sorted out ... so I have spent most of the day working on Alyssa's eyes.

Very patiently I managed to remove the eyelashes (using nail polish remover - acetone) and have removed all the eye shadow apart from a few remnants of black eye-liner. I think this must be what they pt on at the factory as it seems very stubborn.

I have just been using baby oil dabbed on and dabbed off again with surgical swabs (I happen to have a load in the house). Does anyone have any handy hints at any more effective solution using regular household items or do I just keep at it?

I'll do the accounts tomorrow.

With surgical swabs, you may find you get bits of cotton being left behind.

I use a sponge, cut into 30x20x10mm pieces, which can be laundered and reused.

DON'T use sponges with acetone though, but for cleaning off makeup, the oil+sponge combination works just fine. :tu

These are non-woven so no problems about leaving bits behind.

I'll see if sponge is more effective. I should have a few scouring sponges in the cupboard I can cut up.

I think the main problem is my lack of patience :wall

Yep.... My self assessment, plus a clients full year accounts and tax return, plus run Payroll... So, Angel moved to a bigger body, Rivers changed her clothes, I've detangled Maiko's wig and all the time whilst being on here :D

Also got a new Elf head but absolutely no white bodies free to put it on :wall

Emily isn't giving hers up (I've grown rather fond of head #36)

Maiko doesn't share.

Angel just upgraded and wouldn't have ever been without a body anyway

Same with River whose moved to Angels old body

And Amelia won't give hers up whilst her sister still has one.

... Its easier hearding cats

Anyway, just make sure that your self assessment is done at least a week before the deadline as HMRC are buggers for their system going down at the last min in Jan but there are no extension as their arguement is that we should have done it sooner. Couldn't possibly be that they havee a financial incentive for you to be late!

For getting all the make up off including the factory stuff i found good old vaseline does the trick. Rub it in and leave for 10 mins then wipe off. Worked a treat with emma

I have a tube of "Yellow soft Paraffin BP" ... I guess that's the generic version of Vaseline. I could give that a go too.

It seems I'll be able to use a lot of the weird supplies I accumulated in the last year for my cancer may not go to waste after all! :D

Thanks Adam!
