Since Alyssa arrived I've been trying out a number of "looks" to get the perfect one because she arrived with nearly the right look but not quite.

Today I put on her sixth blonde curly wig from Amazon and suddenly the memory/fantasy/idealisation that I had been projecting into her was looking back at me.

It was almost unbelievable. There was nothing particularly special about the wig, it just triggered something deep inside me.

Weird.

Where exactly is the best place to buy QUALITY wigs? I've bought one or two off Amazon. One is... okay. The other is just urgh. The 'hair' is SO thin and also, at the front where the parting is you can CLEARLY see it's a wig. I liked that one too because it was a beautiful purple colour and it FEELS super silky soft.

Specialists mate, you get what you pay for. If your bank balance is still reasonably healthy, go for human hair, the higher density the better if you like "big" hair.
Sara's was £600, but with that I got a custom cap made from scratch to fit her head measurements perfectly, and it sheds about 1 or 2 strands every month or so, so it will probably outlive her. All a question of what you're prepared to spend really

I have about 9 wigs at the mo but i only use 2 of them on emma because like you say... You find the right look and it just works. Hers came from amazon. The quality is fairly good but they tangle easy. The best wig i have is skyes curly blonde one. It came with the doll that i gave my brother so i dont know its origin. Its a lace front and brilliant quality

Lately I've been getting my wigs at the thrift stores here in Canada. Their human hair wigs range from $5 to $15 CDN and once you have tried a human hair wig, there is a good chance you won't want to go back.

That happens to me a lot too. There is something kind of magical about it.

So, human hair wigs, interesting, is there any certain way you need to look after them over more synthetic wigs?

I find them to be pretty low maintenance compared to the synthetic wigs. You can treat them much like your own hair; wash with regular shampoos and conditioners, comb them normally, stile with the same tools people use. They are much easier to comb tangles out of, but you can get split ends if you are not careful.
Most of all they feel much nicer when you run your fingers through your dolls hair.

Nice, does the colour remain for a few years?

The majority of human hair wigs are permanently dyed. The colour will last a very long time. Because it's human hair, it can be dyed. But be wary of black, either starting out with or dying to. It works out as hard work to change the colour from black and may end up damaging the hair. Semi-permanent dyes can be used, which eventually wash out but not completely.

Much easier to style and easier to control those stray hairs that, with a synthetic wig, get stuck to foreheads.

For Comparison

Kaia's wig : 40 quid lace front synthetic. It's quite course in feel though
Xiaoli's wig : 10 quid Ebay, lasted nearly a year so far. She does wear a pony tail most of the time though, so thats going to help with tangles.
Maddies Wig : 20 quid from Amazon.

You just have to make sure it s Synthetic hair/Kanekalon/Japanese Wig fibre and avoid party wigs. For reference look at Forever Young and WiWigs on Ebay.

If you want a fringeless style a Lace Front wig is best as the front inch of hair is on a thin lace veil, not a thicker wig cap, so its way less visible (see Kaia's pics)

It depends what is meant by quality. I have bought synthetic wigs from the following and always found them to be good for purpose. My price range is £15 to £30. If you're thinking human hair then the cost will be rather more.
