Wig mods.
You have 2 options: Tighten the Wig or Pin the wig to a tight elasticated band. You need the wig to be very firm on her head so that the fringe, sides and back all have a solid anchor on her head.
I Modify the wig. Simply put the wig on her and pinch the back at the neck to see how much you need to take in, then sew the wig together at that point
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83070
After that I flatten the loop against the wig and sew the ends down
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83069
If you dont want to do this, then make a loop of 1/2 inch flat elastic thats tight to her head and pin this inside the wig around the edge.
Here's Maddie's wig after the mods. Invisible when loose.
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83068
A note on wig position at this point. Her hairline can be found by simply putting your thumb under he nose and index finger between her eyebrows
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83067
Then, keeping that measure move your thumb to between her eyebrows and where your finger falls on her forehead is where her hairline should be
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83066
Adjust to taste of course!
PONYTAIL!
Start by putting a hair tie on your wrist now! Put it on you non dominant wrist ie left for us Righties and right for you Lefties
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83065
Separate out her fringe and bangs
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83064
You want to leave some hair free at the front to cover the wig cap
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83063
Now brush the remaining hair to the rear. Brush over the top and backwards along the sides and gather in to your hand
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83062
This is the tricky bit, holding the wig cap at the back of the neck and the gathered hair in a loose grip, move the ponytail upwards on the back of her head.
Then gently brush the hair back in to your open hand. brush over the top, back along the sides and from the neck UP into your hand

Repeat the last step until you have the ponytail at the height you want. The higher it goes the more tricky it gets. Mid length hair like Maddies will only go so high.
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83059
Remember that hair tie I told you to put on your wrist before you started? OK, hold the ponytail in that hand and pull the hair tie off your wrist and over the ponytail
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83057
Keeping hold of the ponytail, pull the hair tie upwards, twist and loop over, repeat as many times as you need to to get it decently tight.
During this process the wig may ride up at the back. Simply hold the ponytail once the hair tie is in tightly and pull the back and sides of the wig downwards in to the correct position again

http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83055
Optional:
For extra volume in a ponytail you can separate the hair and insert a micro clip
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83054
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83053

Space Buns / Messy Buns
For a playful messy UpDo, Space Buns / Messy Buns are always cute. This part follows on from putting in the ponytail / Pigtail but dont use the Microclip to add volume.
You're gonna need a load of Bobby Pins!
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83049
Separate a small section of hair from the ponytail and loop it back to her head next to the base of the ponytail
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83048
Ram a Bobby pin in going through the base of the ponytail under the hair tie to hold the loop
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83047
Repeat all around the ponytail base. The more random you are the more exciting it will look
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83046
For an even more carefree look, tease out some fly-aways
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3639&pictureid=83045
then gently pinch the wig so loosen the hair on the top and sides
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3564&pictureid=82982
http://www.uklovedollforums.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=3564&pictureid=82983
As with all things, practice makes perfect, but its so worth it in the ends :)
Hope this helps a few people out with their girls hair

Do it mate! Its actually not as hard as it looks, and once you get the hang of a Ponytail, all sorts of things open up to you and your girl for hair :D

Its gone very quiet from Adam......... I hope Emma isnt bald and standing over a dead body with a rolling pin..........
Adam, I assume from the cutting you've done you are putting tucks in the sides rather than the back??

What's the difference between fringe and bangs? I always just thought the latter was yankee-doodle for the former.

Um.. Yea.. Something like that. I ummmd and ahhhd for a while, hovered the scissors in various places then cut where i thought it looked ok. It turned out ok tho. Fits better and still looks the same so im safe.
As for the pony tail thing.. I tried.. I failed.. I walked away swearing. I'll try again another day lol
I now have 250 hair grips when i only wanted about 5

You can NEVER have too many hair grips, bobbles, Bobby Pins, mini clips, slides, or hair bands!
what bit of the ponytail tripped you up ??

Its an odd one. Definitions vary from them being the same thing to them being different. and a style that has no fringe (no discernable shorter hair at the front) can still be referred to as having Bangs, such as Curtain Bangs....
Personally I refer to the Fringe as the hair over the forehead (usually shorter than the rest of the hair) and the Bangs being the longer hair at the side over the temples.

I gave this a go last night too... and failed. I LOVE the look of Maddie's ponytail though so i'll have another go soon.
The bit i don't understand and i'm definitely being thick here... why does the wig need to be modified/ altered at all? Why can't you just grab the hair, hold it up, get the tail in the right place and band it?

Im not sure it NEEDS to be modified. Its just to make it fit better if it needs to. Most wigs for humans are too big for dolls. Probably why Emma's hair nearly ended up inside an alsation dog last week

Usually because as you try to brush it back whilst holding the hair you'll be pulling the fringe backwards :D
You dont have to mod the wig if its already a good fit and grips her head well. most dont however.
If you dont want to mod the wig and need a tighter grip, make an elastic loop and pin the wig to that.
